Great Links for Black History Month
The observance of Black History Month and the study of black history in general can be traced back to one man, noted historian Dr. Carter G. Woodson. Woodson was appalled by the way blacks were represented in history books -- if they even showed up at all -- and he decided to do something about it. His research and efforts established the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History in 1915. He also founded the widely respected Journal of Negro History. By 1926, black history was featured in classrooms throughout the U.S. These great links trace some of the major events that have shaped the African-American experience.

Great Links for Graphic Organizers
The concept of brainstorming before you write an essay has been in use for a very long time. Graphic organizers offer a major improvement to the simple brainstorm because they add organization to the thoughts generated by the brainstorm. The standard Venn diagram is still actively used in many classrooms throughout the country, but many different organizers have been developed over the past few years. These instructional tools illustrate your knowledge about a topic or section of text and also point out places where you need to learn more.
