Meeting Schedules

Organizational Structure for the National PTA
National PTA
->Was Established in 1897
->Has congresses in the fifty states, District of Columbia, Europe, and the Pacific Region.
->Is the vehicle for nationwide network of PTA units, councils, and states working for children and youth.
->Seeks out other national organizations for collaborative effort for the welfare of children and youth.
->Establishes policy on a national level and advocates legislative priorities at the federal level.
->Provides materials and resources to enable PTAs in the network to become more effective.
->Assigns board members to conduct workshops at state and national convention.
Conducts an annual convention, with representation from each state.
Missouri PTA Scholarship Program
The Missouri Congress of Parents and Teachers allocates Teacher Education Scholarships of $500.00 per year for the purpose of attracting students of outstanding ability to the teaching profession. Students graduating from Missouri's accredited public high schools in school districts with at least one PTA unit in good standing, desiring to obtain a state teaching certificate, may apply for a scholarship.
The scholarship is awarded on:
1. Character and leadership
2. Scholastic ability
3. Aptitude for teaching
4. Sincerity
5. Need for assistance
The Scholarship Program is restricted to those preparing to teach in the public schools. The scholarship may be renewed for succeeding years (not to exceed a total of four years or receipt of a Bachelor's Degree in Education) upon signing and returning the renewal form to the Scholarship Trustees. The renewal form is sent to each recipient in the spring based on evidence of satisfactory scholastic achievement with a minimum 2.5 semester grade point average.
The Scholarship is paid in July/August; upon receipt of previous semester's grades and providing the agreement form has been signed and returned on time.

Organizational Structure for the Missouri State PTA
-> Coordinates programs statewide on behalf of children and youth
-> Provides conferences, workshops, publications, and resource materials on issues and leadership development
-> Provides field services to local unit and council through it regional directors
-> Interprets and implements National PTA policy within Missouri and develops state PTA policy
-> Serves as a working advocate for children and youth at the state level through legislative activity

bullet Includes units within a specific area (city, county, district, etc.)
bullet Strengthens the units by providing opportunities for them to learn from one another
bullet Enables units to cooperate in common projects in order to improve the quality of life for children
bullet Helps promote PTA membership throughout the community
bullet Assists with the organization of new units
Provides guidance and leadership training to member units, officers, and chairmen
Serves as a channel of communication between administrators, school boards, and the public
bullet Is represented at the annual state convention by its president or designated delegate
bullet Note: Not all local units belong to councils; however, every local PTA is a part of a region.
